What they saw...
what it really was
By Beth Clinton 2/6/2010
In memory of my dad Butch Clinton 1/15/1950-2/5/2010
Calloused hands, weatherd and worn
that is what they saw
but this is what they really were...
They were hands that held onto moms
that showed us what love really was
Hands that fixed our bikes to make them go fast
Hands that put food on the table,
to show us what hard work was for.
They were the hands of a simple man
A creased lined face is what they saw
but this is what those lines really were...
They were laughter lines over silly jokes,
smiles for the grandkids wonder,
happiness from when we were younger.
They were worry that crossed your brow
wondering how we would make it,
but knowing God knew how
A man among many is what they saw
but this is what you really are...
A man of wonder and wisdom
A man of strength and perserverance
A man of love and hardness
They may have only seen a single person
but I saw so much more...
I saw my dad!
